Backdrop of the Kingdom

The realm of the Kingdom has stood for many centuries; the current capital of the Kingdom is the great city of Wolfhold. Due to a near constant state of war during the past age, the cities of the realm have lost contact with each other while many fell to the onslaught of Havoc. Now we enter the new age, and the wars have come to an uneasy silence, the upper races of the realm have begun to re-establish contact and trade with a realm that has been split.

Many of the citizens of the Kingdom would rather forget the harsh ages of times past. Content to live their lives as quietly as they can, remaining ignorant to the great dangers that face the realm they inhabit. And who can blame them? With the near constant threat of Havoc, and other foul creatures bent on destruction and death, why shouldn't the regular citizens concentrate on what's good in their lives? Indeed, with the royal army now in tatters as a result of the recent incursions by Havoc, the line of defence for the realm is now in the hands of the adventurers and warriors that live in and around the great cities of Wolfhold, Herdhiem, Middeneifel, and Altschlag.

Its neighbours Bolshov and Bertagne border the Human realm of the Kingdom. Who the Kingdom has trade with, though this has diminished from the past glory between the realms, much of the borders between them are now heavily guarded with long lines of watchtowers to guard against the threat from the northlands. However, there are still travellers from these countries who visit and even live in the Kingdom, and it is not unheard of for adventurers from as far as Ispenia to be found, though the citizens of the Kingdom at times view them with mistrust.
